Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, Rice concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
